About

Welcome to the homepage of the 2016 Heroes are Human Capital-to-Capital Bike Ride!

The Heroes are Human Capital-to-Capital ride is a 15-day cycling adventure and mental health campaign starting in Ottawa, Ontario, on May 7, 2016 and finishing in Washington, DC, on May 20, 2016. The ride covers the 956 miles (1,538 km) from the capital of Canada to the capital of the USA, crossing the Canada – U.S. border on May 9.

The purpose of the campaign is to increase awareness about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other occupational stress injuries faced by first responders (law enforcement, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics and communication officers) in both countries.
There is no border separating the risks faced by first responders in their daily jobs. As a result, American and Canadian first responders and supporters are joining forces to raise awareness and provide education about the cause.

Our Mission

To help remove the obstacles of recognizing operational stress injuries for police,
EMS, firefighters, and emergency communications officers by fostering
an open dialogue for education and access to mental health resources.

We are diligently working on building our website and getting more information available. Once that is done you’ll be able to register for the ride and see detailed route information. In the mean time please go to our updates page for new information, or follow us on Facebook. You can also download a flyer to advertise the ride here.
